Parent - - By shorthood2006 (****) Date 10-28-2007 19:34
length! and age.... LOL
Parent - - By mody454 (**) Date 10-28-2007 22:16
how about red face and black face whats the defrence there. so all your short hoods are 50s models or below?
Parent - - By shorthood2006 (****) Date 10-29-2007 02:34
shorthoods and red faces are copper wound. black faces are copper and aluminum would. i have customers who LOVE their 73,74,75 models as good as their red faces. Ya find a machine that welds really good....keeep it.
Parent - - By mody454 (**) Date 10-29-2007 11:21
ok i got ya but ive heard alot of negative stuff on the aluiminum wound. these sa 200 are about the only thing ive ever seen hold value. guys just keep rebuilding the old ones. i have heavy equipment and i know i love a diesel over gasoline is that the same with these old welders. is there any defrence in the way the weld
Parent - - By shorthood2006 (****) Date 10-29-2007 18:51
diesel machines are cheaper to run..fuel them up every 4 days. gas machines(sa200's), have to be filled up daily. the cost ads up.
there again, you will get alot of opinions on this one. BUT...my opinion is... welding on pipe, i would go with a redface or 300D.
Parent - By mody454 (**) Date 10-30-2007 00:16
i heard the 300's wouldnt stack right. thats what a bunch of the guys are complaining about in okc. i think i found a sa 200 to get me started but i will be in the market for a 250d real soon. i will be needing parts for this 200 i found though  i welded with a 250d today and fell in love

Pictures for thought. All SA's and Classics are constructed the same. In 73-74 Lincoln used inner aluminum windings on the shunt field coils. But like I have said before, and Tom Fowler can agree, thousands of shunt field coil sets have been replaced in these machines over the years. So it is hard to determine by age what 73-74 machines still have aluminum shunt field coils.

Since I have worked in this field, 19 years, the code numbers we have seen with faulty field coils is 7307 and 7789. And our shop has replaced shunt field coils in approx 113 of these machines.
