Welds are classified as F, H, V, OH, when in conformance with these figures. Does anyone have anything that better or easier explains the inclination of axis, axis of weld, axis limits, angle rotation of face of weld, etc.?
Build a model that replicates the figures; its really not that hard to do.
Cut a block of wood into the weld shape shown in each of the figures. Drill a hole through the longitudinal axis as shown in the picture. Place a rod or dowel through the drill hole, but allow the wood weld cutout to rotate around the rod/dowel. Fasten one end of the rod/dowel as shown in the figure. And then teach.
Most guys can absorb the concept of weld positions better if they can see it in 3D and move the figure in space.
I really cannot think of a better way either through these figures or a model built on these figures to describe welding positions.
