Been doing shutdowns as a combowelder, and I was thinking about trying tube welding. Any tips for putting in a tig root when doing a restricted test or on the job would be helpful. Do you need a mirror to tube weld, heard you do sometimes? When putting in the root I know you dont have to grind your stops, but when are coming to a start(of the tack) do you have to feather that down, or is there a way to tie in correctly without grinding? If you have to grind do you use a pencil grinder or how would you fix the weld if you happen to get porosity or something? Does anyone know of any companies that hire tubewelders out of the houston area? Just to add I know you need to be able to freehand, and I am able to do that.
