Where I work our welding supplier just inform us that helium gas would go up 76% at the start of the new year, has everybody helium gas went up this high.

Yah its getting bad. Aparently there is a hudge shortage of the stuff. My tri mixes are rediculous high right now. I had to go up on my rates to make up for it.

I just saw an article about it in my local paper. Looks like there's no end in site.

My friend who I work for from time to time has the local FTD florist franchise in His garden center. This includes party ballons. Over a year ago He got a notice from Airgas that helium was in short supply and might need to be rationed. Now I must agree that filling ballons is not a high priority use of helium, but the ballons just ain't the same hanging from a string.

Hello saipen7000, helium is generally used as a shielding gas by itself or in combination with argon for use in welding aluminum with either the GTAW aluminum process or the GMAW aluminum process, might also apply to copper welding. It can also be used in conjunction with a couple of other gases for tri-mix use in the GMAW process for certain types of steel or stainless welding. Hope this answers your question.
