Hey how it going everyone. acouple of days ago I saw a post about hooking something up the battery on sa 200 that would give you ac out put to run power tools does anybody know what it is called and where to find it thanks. Not sure of who the person was that posted it.
  Thanks for any info,

install an inverter. it has 2 cables that fasten to your battery. size will vary with brand.....about 7x11 inches. you can buy small ones for 50 bucks and more powerful ones for 3-400. Coleman and Radio shack are 2 brands. Also, Northern Tool catalog have them too.

Thanks I will look into that. You must have to buy one that is big enough to power a grinder and chop saw, how would you know what size to get, say grinder is 8 amps and chop saw is 15 amps who would how may watts do you think you would need.
thanks agian

most grinders are ac dc and u can get chop saws that are too

watts = volts times amps

amps = watts divided by volts

volts = watts divided by amps

example: 120 volt, 8 amp grinder...120 x 8 = 960 watts

you always wanna go about 500-1000 watts over what you need because motors actually draw more amps when they first start (called peak wattage).

In adition to Welderdude's comments remember that an inverter making 1500 watts from 12 volts wil draw 150 amps. You need to size the power cables larger than for welding to reduce voltage drop. Use a minimum of 2/0 for short runs, bigger for long runs. If You plan on doing much heavy work with an inverter You should increase the battery and charging capacity. Inverters will produce more than rated output for a short time, long enough to start motors. The transformer type like the Heart anbd Trace brands have 300% surge capacity. The inductor type which is much lighter has only 200% surge capacity. The 1800 watt Heart brand unit I have been using since '90 will run any 15 amp power tool and most motors up to 3/4 HP.

yeah...maybe a deep cycle battery...might have to increase the charging amps on the alternator too, depending on how heavily you're gonna use the inverter.

thanks again guys
