Nothing to discuss really. "Ferrous" means it contains mostly iron, "nonferrous" means does not contain iron as a principal alloying element. Stainless steels are iron alloys that contain at least 11% chromium and may contain other elements. It sounds like the author made an error.

Have faith ross. It may take a little time but I believe this one will fly. We already have numerous metallurgical discussions (unlike the management subject which was scarce). We just need to locate them in the new forum.
if that is a new type of non ferrous steel/metal or whatever, why must call it stainless steel but not other name? what is the properties of that new "thing" related to stainless steel?
The closest thing to a non ferrous stainless steel that I can think of might be Alloy 20. The filler is in the SS specs the base materials are in the non ferrous specs. Actually I think Gerald is right. Though we're havin fun it was clearly a text glich.
