I have a Miller Bobcat 250 on my truck and Im getting ready to hit the road with it. I was wondering how much hell Im going to catch for useing a Miller? I have heard from people that some places wont even let you test. Is this true? I got a great deal on the welder so I bought it with hopes to get started and then buy a bigger Lincoln later.  Thanks for any help

Im running pipeline with a Miller Pipe Pro.  What are you intending to weld on.

air cooled machine isnt going to be able to handel some of the jobs on the road

Im not sure what Im going to do yet, I kinda want to get into pipeline but from what I've heard It can be hard to break into. Im just tired of working in shops and want to work my own rig. If anyone has any advise for me It would be greatly appreciated.

your not going to pipeline with that machine

Thats what I've heard. Would it even work for a little while? I figured within a few months I could afford to buy a Bigger Lincoln like a Vantage 300 or a 300D. Im still just trying to figure out what im going to do. Thanks for the advice.

you could chase a few rigs with that machine for a little while then get you another or try to trade someone for a used SA 200.  Some of these farmer/ranchers have sa200's and would be more than happy to trade for what they would use them for.

This may be a stupid question but what do you mean by chase rigs. I know around here there are a few companies that are building drilling rigs. I was thinking about doing that? I have a friend that does that and he has a Miller Bobcat 225 and he says it does everything he needs. I really appreciate all your help.

you should definitely build rigs for awhile, get some structural experience, get the "feel for it". then find you an old pipeliner and keep doing the rig work until you feel comfortable with the better machine, practicing on pipe along the way, then when you think you got it....... practice some more.....

wanna chase rigs in rifle,co what experiance do you have?

Why downsize to 200?  My first machine was a Lincoln Ranger 250G.  Awesome machine and I kept up with 300 classics or whatever all day long burning 5/32 and back gouging 3/16,  the only difference is the gassers don't last as long but they perform just as well.

down here 99% of the companies wont even let you take a pipe test with one of those machines.

The bobcat has a single phase arc alternator. Generators have three phase arcs. The Miller Trailblazer 302 and 275 have three phase alternators. Pipe welds easier with a three phase arc.

Ive got a linclon ranger 10- 3 phase and it runs great , It runs 7018 very nice but will never compair to my sa200 and some good old 5p+++++!

Question, is it three phase generator power for motors & tools. I believe the arc on that Ranger is single phase like the Bobcat.

From looking at the schematics the Ranger 3 phase and Bobcat 3 phase apear to be single phase on the welding output and 3 phase on the Aux. output. To be technically corect on Your earlier post, generators [like an SA 200] produce DC directly. Those Trailblazers are 3 phase as You mentioned on the welding output, and 120 HZ [twice the frequency of a typical shop welder] with single phase 60 HZ Aux output.

The generator welders produces ac that is rectified with a commutator. The Trailblazer alternator does have a 3 phase arc and yes with the four pole rotor it has 120 hz per single phase so with 3 phase it has a 360 hz ac that is then rectified into a very smooth dc arc.
