Just wondering how everyone else is holding up to mother nature. Here in North Co/southern Wy it has been stupid cold, and stupid windy. Some days I can't even get out of the driveway - and it's a steep down hill one......crap! Keeping the hoe close to home, (that's a piece of equipment)...........?!

I-80 has been closed dang near every day. If you can get home it's a miracle. Wind makes driving beyond 50 impossible.......you can't see through the drifting snow.

I've been watching the news, and it seems like everyone is getting hammered......wondering what some of you are facing is all.......SD

Parent - - By CHGuilford (****) Date 02-08-2008 17:44
Snow and spittin' snow all this week in Maine.  Temps not bad at 25 to 30.  3" more snow coming with temps to drop down to single digits this weekend (could be above or below, but most likely above).

So still not as tough as you are going through.

Just got sent home from a welding job, 7 to 9 foot seas with the occasional 12 footer.  Don't know if I would fair any better in your neck of the woods SD.  But it is about 70 here in southern alabama.

SD, I've got a friend around Evanston somewhere I'd like to visit, but those webcams along I80 sure show a wicked winter. Durango warmed up today and melted off a bit. Good luck up there.

Got stuck in Rawlins for damn near a week just lately. I-80 was a very scary place to be last week!

heat wave in south texas was 83 yesterday and high 70's today and still cant find any decent work
Parent - - By Stringer (***) Date 02-13-2008 04:11
Hey RafterG, I probably don't know squat, but I thought there might be a lot of work in Pt. Arthur at Shell, Beaumont with CBI on a modular LNG building deal at the "ugh" shipyard, then Hackberry, La. at some LNG thing, and maybe Gary, La. for Marathon. If it's pure pipeline you're asking about, then I'm certain I don't know squat. Just throwing out what I've seen and heard...

22 here after a hard RAIN ....lots of wind.  Temp has been up in the 70's and then in the same day down in the 20's....crazy weather but no snow and thank God no real ice.    This has been going on all winter.  If I was working outside now I would have  a hard time packing enough gear to make sure I could make it from 6 am to 6pm...because I would have to carry everything!
Parent - - By Sourdough (****) Date 02-13-2008 17:40
Called my Pop in Alaska yesterday. He said Tok, Alaska was -73 last week. My brothere usually runs the Iron Dog race up there, but not this year. Pretty wise decision, I think!

damn it will be 102 here before you know it !!!!
Parent - - By jrw159 (*****) Date 05-10-2008 02:49
The humidity is what gets to me.

I can deal with 102 as long as I don't have to swim in it.

90 here in houston at 10 am.  I am heading to the beach for beer and horseshoes.  Its gonna be a long summer!
Parent - - By 52lincoln (***) Date 05-10-2008 15:36
damn i wish i lived by the beach LOL!!!
Parent - - By mechan (**) Date 05-10-2008 16:32
58 and semi sunny up in Maine, if the rain holds off this summer might actually be half way decent! I didn't mind the weather when I was down in Texas, but it sure did make for some hot days marching around.
Parent - - By RioCampo (***) Date 05-11-2008 03:08
we like to skip the 90's altogether. Straight in to triple digits.
Parent - By aevald (*****) Date 05-11-2008 03:44
You guys are all making me jealous, except for Superflux. I had to scrape the frost off of my windshield the other morning and it's been cloudy, chilly, and rainy any other time. Best regards, Allan
Parent - - By OBEWAN (***) Date 05-12-2008 13:32
90 is hot?  It has been 90 in FL and it still feels cool.  I guess my blood has thinned.  Hot will be 100+ with high humidity this summer.  My car is routinely 130-140 F when I go out of my office at night.  I only live 8 mins from work and it takes the AC 10 mins to cool off my car. Go figure.  I just roll down the windows and suffer.  I guess we have to pay a price sometime for all those 70F sunny winter days.
Parent - By Kix (****) Date 05-12-2008 14:27
Yeah, I'm still scraping frost off my windshield sometimes in the morning.  It's suppose to be in the 60's all week up here.  No wonder everyone has 2 places up here, a place in florida for the winter and here in the summer.  It sucks though when you go to the beach along the lake and can't go in the water because it's to darn cold, but the dog sure does luv it.
Parent - - By OBEWAN (***) Date 05-12-2008 17:47
Speaking of hot, how cold should the temp differential be for a small Civic?  Inside the car, it can be 130F when the windows are rolled up and it is 90F outside.  The air coming out of the ac is probably around 50F.  Is this not as cold as the old systems I remember because it is not using freon?  I had one once that used to ice up even.  The car is only 2 months old, so if I have a charge or compressor issue I want it fixed - especially before the 100F hits.  Maybe 8-10 mins to cool the car is the best I can expect.  : (
Parent - - By Lawrence (*****) Date 05-12-2008 18:57
It's all in the heat exchange........ wind thru fin

Drive faster!
Parent - - By OBEWAN (***) Date 05-12-2008 19:12
I would drive faster if I could.  Right off I have to sit through 3 long traffic lights. One of them takes 5 mins if I get caught at it.  It is tempting to just run it, and many people do. They are going to put up cameras and issue automatic tickets things are so bad!!
Parent - By DaveBoyer (*****) Date 05-13-2008 04:52
They usually figure on the refrigerant temperature in the evaporator being about 34 F so that the coils cant freeze over from condensation. The output air temprature is of course dependant on the temperature and volume of the incoming air and the capacity of the unit.

Being a new car I would find out from the dealer what it is supposed to work like.
Parent - - By Superflux (****) Date 05-13-2008 09:34 Edited 05-13-2008 10:03
Unless you have a Crown Victoria Police Package, A/C's don't work worth a darn at idle RPM's, throw -er into N or P and rev it up to about 2K. So much for that fuel economy!
FWIW, had an Escalade that didn't do so good on vacation on an August Dallas Friday at 5:00pm. Not sure what the official high for that day was, but if the sidewalk had been 9% chrome, I would have struck an arc on it with confidence.....I'm so glad the ex convinced her lawyer to take it off my hands...I was gonna give it to her anyway, as a going away present, really I was.

Seriously though, if it is only 50F when cruising, you have problems. As Dave said they do set them up just above freezing, but a thermometer stuck into the vent should read around freezing to 40F max...

Since this is a weather thread
Got 8" - 10" of snow at Red Lodge Ski area (50 miles S/W of here) last night. One of these days I'll get to turn off the pilot light!

70 at 5:30 AM in Dallas this morning.

CRAZY

JRW,

What are you doing up in Southern Oklahoma??  Your profile says you're in Tejas!
Parent - - By jrw159 (*****) Date 05-13-2008 14:56
johnnyh,
Dallas is in Tejas, last I looked anyways. LOL:-)

Where did you get Southern OK from?

John
Parent - - By johnnyh (***) Date 05-13-2008 15:17
Down here in Houston we dont consider Dallas part of Texas.  It is Southern OK to all of us sports fans down here.  LOL  It seems like a whole different way of life up there.  I play slow-pitch softball (i know-insert joke here) but we have a huge rivalry with the guys from the north.....so yeah....southern Oklahoma (even on the AWS message board)
Parent - - By jrw159 (*****) Date 05-13-2008 15:36
LOL, now I understand. You will have to excuse me, as much as I love TX, Most of my time has been spent in CO, so that one went right over my head the first time.

I was under the mistaken impression that you had to be a little closer to the "Red River" to be labeled "Southern OK"

Thanks for bringing me up to speed.:-)

While I am haveing fun with the humidity here, it is nothing compared to where you are at.

John

When I lived in New England, the latest ski lift ticket I collected was May 28th one year.  I think it was 75 degrees on the mountain though.  I skiied in shorts that day.
