can someone tell me the difference between the L-200 and the F162 continental motors? The '60 model i just bought has the L-200 in it. looks identical to the 162.

It is a base model F162. You will notice you donot have holes for any options like a temp gauge, etc.

So kaye some of these did come with temp gauges? I figured none of them did. I sure would like to see a 62 redface with more options just to see what it would have looked like.

They didn't come from the factory (Lincoln) with temp gauges. The base model L200 engine doesn't even have a 'knock out' on the engine for one. The f162's do. Petronix and Perlux have discontinued the tower and hold down clamp for the F162 prior to 1965. This head has a smaller distributor hole, just a heads up to anyone looking to change from the magneto to the distributor.

Thanks Kaye yeah I don't plan on a distributor from what I have heard the magneto produces a bigger spark anyway
