Parent - By marshall brown (*) Date 02-17-2008 13:19
I have a range selector in the mail as we speak.  It is in Manchester, TN, between Nashville and Chattanooga.

Marshal- you priced it too cheap people think somethings wrong with it. I have a handful of people looking for one for me to overhaul and clean up, I will contact them. Thats in better condition than most I see. I've had customers buy them for that price and they don't run or weld. If I was closer I'd work a deal with ya.

Here is a pic of the 61 Red Face, we installed Safety gauges on, remote pigtail, electronic ignition, OEM parts for idler upgrade, new wiring, new alternator and paint. Sold it for $3800. One year warranty on replaced parts.

At the moment the welder isnt much to look at.  I am in the process if trying to put an aluminum radiator in it.  The high idle mechanism is being replaced.  I rebuilt the magneto: new coil, fiber gear, and new points and condensor.  I freshened up the carb, i.e. clean it out, and polish the needle and seat.  I am also replacing some of the frame that I feel is just crap.  The sheet metal is all accounted for.  The doors are straight as is the hood, though is has some rust holes in it.  The largest one is .75x1.00 inches.  The helmet has a scuff on it but, no dents!  The photos in the first post show no range selector.  I installed one today.  This welder is in Manchester, TN, 37355.

K is that a ampmeter gauge in the center or a hour gauge?
Parent - - By marshall brown (*) Date 02-21-2008 04:10
Neither, it is a two-prong twist lock auxillary connector.  It is what you call old-school.  I order a male end for an extension cord. Retro..

I will get some more pics posted tomorrow

thats what I have is the two prong twist lock and was wondering how would i use a remote or would I have to replace the plug??
Parent - By marshall brown (*) Date 02-21-2008 04:47
I dont know.  I am waiting for parts to build my idle controller.

Leviton 5801 if the updated standard recept plug, you can get it at Home Depot for $1.99. You have to install a totally different plug for a remote. Thats why we install a pigtail, you can use an extension cord to run from the pigtail to a Cable remote box.

We have a couple of hardware stores in Manchester, TN that specialize in "hard to find".  I ordered two twist lock connectors for 12.00.  I am thinking I might use them because the extension cord can't work loose.  I moved all my controls to the front today.  Why in the world would Lincoln put them in the back?
Parent - By chris2698 (****) Date 02-22-2008 04:52
yeah I think the twist plug would be great if I had the other end so it doesn't work itself loose.

Gauges across the top are Murphy temp, ammeter, Murphy Oil.

how important really is a amp meter gauge? I've got one on mine now which I don't think works and was debating do I really need it or not?
Hell the one in my car I don't pay attention to because either the car is charged and it starts or it is dead as a door nail.

its really up to you. I consider it a tattle tale. I watch the one on my truck when its running funny, just for the simply fact, I'd like to know before I am in the middle of nowhere with a dead battery or shorted diode in my alternator.

I've never seen mine start to go dead usually it is just simply dead LOL

Yes Kay, it is an indicator of problems in the immediate future, but only for those who pay attention and understand how the system works. A charging system expanded scale volt meeter is handy too, provided one knows what it should read.
