Hi, everyone i have a few questions on the branch teast i am preparing to take in a few weeks, first of all i am having trouble with the points on my branch sucking in tighter while i am starting my stringer and second of all i seem to have a hard time getting my stringer to tie-in on the pipe even though it is burning in nicely to the branch pipe {running about an 1/8 land, 1/8 5p+, 12 on 12 sch 40 pipe, using a vantage300 on downhill mode) never seem to have had this problem before so any help would be greatly apprecieated

I'm not sure if this will help, but it helped me...I had problems with undercut on my cap stringers.  I figured out that if I turned the arc force all the way up it actually helped my bead spread out instead of digging in and not filling up the edges.

another thing that helps with the gap closing up is to use a 3/32" gap.

thanks for the reply , when u turn up the arc force do u also feel like u are trapping slag or creating porosity in your weld

no, it seems to run a whole lot better overall with maximum arc force.  I was also filling and capping with 8010, which runs slightly different from 6010.

yeah dude he wants you to leave an 18" gap ha ha

I think i'll need one of those 3/4" welding rods from an earlier post to fill that gap...ha!

like they say "no crack too tight, no gap to wide"  ha ha

if the crack is too tight, run up hill, if the gap is too wide, hit the left side and the right side will get jelous and move over.......... lol
