just as it is termed. a plate specimen comes from a plate test and a pipe specimen comes from a pipe weld test assembly. specimens can also be termed coupons.
What I was looking for a a definition of pipe vs. plate in terms of wall thickness and curvature. We weld a 13.5" OD x 9" ID x 6" thick ring to a another ring. Do we need to qualify a pipe or plate procedure?
SOUNDS LIKE PIPE...BUT TO WHAT CODE SPECS ARE YOU WELDING. DEPENDING ON APPLICATION AND CODE YOU MAY HAVE SOME TESTING FLEXIBILITY. DID NOT MEAN TO BE RUDE IN PREVIOUS POST.
A plate test will qualify you for 24" & up pipe assumeing you are talking about a "groove weld" You should read the posting under "Technical" / "30" pipe welding" in this Forum.
