The 6G designation is one of the various "TEST POSITIONS" used by various codes. The tyoical ones for pipes are below.
The 2G position is also referred to for plate positions. The 5G and 6G designations are for pipe only. A 1G is also performed with the pipe in the same position as the 5G but rolled out.
In my experience the 6G is most often given. This position qualifies for all positions with only one test assembly for most codes in the US.
In my opinion the 6G is easier than the 5G. Tying in and staggering the starts and stops on the bottom is a little easier on the 6G. I don't have to file nearly as much.
