Wanting to hear from some guys that do 1104 code all the time. Busted a test for a burn through.

Wondering how bad of a defect a burn through can be. Seems like I have burned through a million times and never busted. I always tied in real good when this happened tho.

I'm bummed..............

the sensitivity of the x-ray film should show a 2% change in thickness

What about root undercut?
How do you measure that in a small diameter pipe?

1104 test are usually 12 inch or 8 inch. If you test a welder on 2 or 4 inch you limit them to that diameter. So root undercut can be physically measured. BUt if you are using RT to qualify a welder, the test can be busted if there is IP or BT even if the discontunity is acceptable. When qualifying a welder, it comes doen to no IP no BT.
BABRT's

How was it inspected?
RT or AUT?

You are not allowed very much as it is considered a volumetric defect in 1104.
