I am looking at a job the requires the welding of 6061-T6 aluminum to cast aluminum 356-T651. There is no requirement to keep the T6 condition after welding so is TIG welding with 4043 weld wire the best bet?

Welcome to the Forum Phil
4043 is the primary choice according to the Aluminum Association
They footnote that 5356 may be an alternate choice if you are annodizing and looking for a better color match and better ductility.

Thanks for the confirmation. I had an older AWS book that said 5356 would work with 4043 in the footnotes.
