A656 Gr 80 5/8 thick using a GMAW process on a robot I need to put down a 5/16-3/8 fillet anyone have any recomendations on wire,gas,pre-heat required for a project of this nature? Thanks Justin
We weld this daily as one of our "main" materials. I prescribe the use of ER80S-D2 filler and 95/5 Ar/Co2 shield. Size wire should depend on fillet size and joint position. For parameters, I prescribe a slightly "wet" arc as compared to a ER70S-6 wire because the puddle is slightly stiffer and a wetter arc will enhance the wettability. With .045" 27-28 volts 350-400Ipms should put you in a good neighborhood
A "wetter arc" means in the world of slang terms,,,a "soft arc" or a in a spray mode, a little lighter on the wire feed rate. This allows the edges to wet easier.
