I don't look any further than Walmart most of the time... They sell 100% Cotton long sleeve workshirts with button flap pockets (for safety) and I can get them between $7 and $10. I would say they are Medium duty rather than Heavy duty but for the price I don't feel terrible after I wear them out.
To make them last longer I press them with extra (non flammable) starch... Spatter and slag bounce right off a pressed shirt unlike what happens when a BB strikes anything fuzzy. I would guess it more than doubles the life of the shirts. It really works.
I have been welding for a while now and the best shirts i have found is Lapco. They dont burn as easy as the rest of them do. you can get any style u like at www.thegangbox.com thats also the cheapest place to get them, that i have found. They run about 35 dollars a peice, but are worth every penny. I have some that are 2 or more years old.
The last time I bought my Lapco's I had them made to size with extra long tail and sleeves. It's been fives years ago and I bought them direct from Lapco.
i haved looked on the lapco site but could not figure out how to order from there could you give some helpful info on that.

Hey Chris, I called down there and talked to someone in person.
Lawrence,
I'm with you on that! $9.00 a pop for my Long sleeved Denim shirts at Wal-Mart. No fabric softener in the wash and Press'em good. They last a long time and I don't cry when they are no longer good for welding. I'll cut the sleeves off and use them for work around the Yard. Just My $.02 on the subject.
Respectfully, Jeffrey
Try Tom Waters Baton Rouge LA. (tomwatersonline.com) 1-800-460-6827 They have Dickies,Carhartt and Lapco maybe a few others ask for a catalog.
Call Mica at lapco, The owners son. He will tell you were to get them in your area or send them to you himself, ask for "endura fabric" as not all the shirts are flame resistant. tell him I refferd you and he might give you a better price.
Regards, Richard.Knutson
