How far should the tip be recessed in the nozzle?Welding ouside and fighting the wind,also welding 1/2" round to 3" box tuibing (1/2") do you recommend using .035 or .045 dual shield wire.

If you are FCA welding outdoors in the wind; use a multipass gasless/self shielded flux cored wire. You can insulate the contact tube and dispose of the nozzle. If you are using a gas shielded flux core wire or GMAW w/a solid or metal cored wire with spray transfer recess the contact tube 1/8 - 1/4" behind the nozzle. If GMAW short circuit metal transfer the contact tube should be flush to 1/8" in front of the nozzle.
