I have to build up some teeth on a machine that digs up roots in new ground that has just been cleared. I have been building up with 7018's then putting a cap on with Stoody 31's. Does anyone have a better suggestion?

That would be on par with how we do it too.  When the weather is good (wind) we also use dual sheild FCAW from a suitcase feeder.  I have not tried self sheild FCAW.  This process is much faster.

Thanks for that information! I may try to use my suitcase welder with HB18 solid core wire if the wind is not blowing, when I get to the jobsite.

11018MR Low Hydrogen, always worked well for me and held up longer.

Awesome selection!!  (grin)

You can use 7018....or you might also use Stoody Build Up LH for the sizing....it is designed as the underlayment before the hardfacing.

I would not recommend anything higher strength thank 7018 as build up materials if you are going to put hardfacing on top.

Thanks for the info! I will be using Hardalloy 140 to cap the teeth after I build them up with the HB18 solid core wire.
