Up Topic Welding Industry / Inspection & Qualification / measuring a lap joint fillet

In the process of writing WPS for our shop. Welding 16g to 16g 304L, this is a lap joint and looking for a 1/16" fillet. most welders currently "overweld" , melting away the top edge of the joint at wich point I can't determine the original edge and the fillets look to be 3/16".
I have made up some 1/16" fillet gauges, is there codes that refer to maintaing the edge for the lap joint.
thanks

if your working to d1.6 look at 3.14.1 (99) it lists max size fillets as thickness of base metal up to 1/4" and - 1/16" for base metal over 1/4".

thanks, I can use this figure for clarification. I was told that our company mostly apllies there standards to ASME, this is not a requirement for us but would like to follow there standards. Is there similiar fiqures or articles I could refer to in SecIX.
thanks

Congratulations hogan!! Welcome to the 4 diamond club.  I reached that plateau 66 postings ago.  Oops.  Make that 67 counting this one.  Only 1933 more to go to get my next rock.  Although, if you were to take away all my b.s. postings, I'd probably be closer to 1000.

I dunno about B.S.  But sometimes I think you must be broadcasting from area 51

Isn't 16 gage material right at 1/16" thick?  It might be tough not to melt that top edge...
