Every machine sometimes differ. You may set it on 90 but the real output is 110, its much better to test first before hitting on it. Welders sometimes vary with their amp comfort zone, lower amperage is more controllable to achieve a quality root... With regards to the gap, for me the ideal gap should be the measurement of the diameter of the rod (exclude flux). But it also depends on the welder which is comfortable to him 'coz others prefer to reduce the gap more....
