Up Topic American Welding Society Services / Technical Standards & Publications / Need an AWS D1.1 WPS Blank Form N-1 in pdf
- - By Fritz Date 01-24-2008 00:44
Hello, my first post here.

I'm trying to clean-up my handwritten WPS Forms by typing them into the same N-1 Form standard, but in pdf style.
Is this available as freeware or would somebody be able to help me find it?
I couldn't find it searching the AWS website and I've only ordered hard copies of the D1.1 thus far.
Help is much appreciated.

I also hope to discuss a lot of WPS specifics like writing Prequalified WPS and referencing Filler Metal Compliance Certificates along with their parameters in context.
As a Structural Steel Fabricator working on California OSHPD (State Office of Health Planning & Development) projects, I find that there is a lot of misunderstanding of Procedure Specifications by the powers tasked with reviewing welding procedures.

Try kinkos or office depot, they should have a copy machine that scans to pdf files!
I got one at work but dont think they would appreciate me using their machine for personal use!

Thanks ctacker.  Adobe has an online pdf generator that I've used.

However, I now realize that a pdf may not be the format for text input that I've been looking for.
Since I'm a bit of a computer novice, is there a way to add text to the pdf document Form N-1 that MBSims linked me to or the like?

I did a Google search and came up with the following:

http://www.wpsamerica.com/ewpsform.php

http://www.dot.state.al.us/Docs/Bureaus/Bridge/Structural+Steel+Fabricators.htm

You can download the form for free from AWS by clicking the highlighted words "clicking here":

https://www.awspubs.com/product_info.php?products_id=238&osCsid=9605a576ca5fdba76ae2fce10380d1dd

You may have to register before the link takes you to the form.  I had to enter my email address and password, which I already had from a previous online order.

Thank you everybody for your welcome and responses.
MBSims, the awspubs link led me to the exact form I've been looking for (N-1), thank you.

However, I noticed that I can't write text into the pdf file. That's what I'd like to do.
I suppose I should have phrased my original question: looking for a Form N-1 template for text input.

The wpsamerica seems promising.
I'll have to investigate further.

Once you have the pdf, and if you have Acrobat professional (standard may do this as well), you can turn that pdf into a form that you can fill out. Try Acrobat help >> forms, or if "forms" appears on the main menu bar you can probably skip the help and just muddle your way through pretty easily.

I've got Acrobat Prof 8.0 and the forms maker "wizard" is fairly slick.

On top of this, you can export the form data into a spreadsheet. If you're really slick you can keep all your WPS/PQR parameters in a spreadsheet and pull data from that spreadsheet back into the form when you need hardcopies. That way you only save one spreadsheet instead of multiple copies of pdfs. Looking even further, if you have many, many WPS the spreadsheet makes reviewing and assessing your currently WPS library much easier.

Try "Arc Works" from Lincoln if you can find a copy, they stopped selling it in 2003, does anyone know where a copy can be found today?

Here is another one I found when google "arc works"

For our WPS, I had my IT guy create a template in Microsoft word, and my detailers make jpegs of the weld joints that drop in one of the fields.

C-Spec is another option. It is updated with every new edition.

Do you have PQR's that need rewritten?  I'd download some freeware like what was posted in here to take care of all of that.  Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Thank you for the welcome Kix!

I don't need Procedure Qual's at this time, but links may come in handy for future reference or to anybody looking for them via this topic.

We created ours from scratch in Excel.  It took awhile in the beginning, but now that we have them it's easy to modify for each process and  position.

As far as questions you have regarding writing WPS's and such, before you post your question, try using the "SEARCH" function  in the tool bar and type in what your are looking for.  There's a good chance that it's already been asked and answered earlier.  You can even add another question  or comment to an older thread and it will pop up in the list and others can take it from there.

Some guys get tired of answering the same questions over and over.

Good Luck,  Chris

I'm also looking for a AWS D1.1 WPS Blank Form N-1 in pdf.

I tried the AWS link by clicking the highlighted words "clicking here":

https://www.awspubs.com/product_info.php?products_id=238&osCsid=9605a576ca5fdba76ae2fce10380d1dd

I didn't see the file there.  Am I losing it, or was it removed?

thanks

If you know how to use a computer and you have a word processing program, why not simply develop the form. Some people even use a spread sheet (only the Lord knows why they would do that) to write their forms.
