Hello Experts,

Please share ur thoughts- Is UT or RT recommended for corner joint welds and why?

In terms of corner joint welds, why is one method beter than the other?

thanks

I would go with UT. If for no other reason than film placement problems

I would have to agree.  About 10 years ago one of my clients built the same type header boxes that were about 15" X 20" X 1" thick.  RT was required by the engineering folks, they would not allow UT.  From what I recall not only film placement, but distortion and projection of the root area was a problem on the closure joint.

"distortion and projection of the root area was a problem on the closure joint"

That sounds about right

I think UT (all configuration T K Y) is best way to inspect.

It usually is.

The only thing you will get with RT is an information only shot.  The shot most likely will not meet the geometric unsharpness requirments.  You'll see everything if you get proper film placment but the measurment of indications will be off.  Any indication will be magnified beyond the Ug.

i think i would be more concerned with getting complete coverage when performing rt on a corner joint.

I would agree with that

As per UW 12,Type 7 Joint i.e. Corner Joint RT or UT is not possible.

Now if we try to do UT what will % of defect can be revealed.
