I really don't want to stir up a hornets nest here, we're all proffesionals right?! I just wondered what the rest of you guys in the welding biz thought about the current field?

I'm a Romney supporter myself. I like his plain-spokeness, leadership abilities, and he seems to have the best handle on economic policy of anyone on either side.

I don't mean to offend but I don't think the Dem side gets it. i.e. war on terror or economy; the two biggest issues facing us today. Furthermore, I think that they would take steps to prohibit oil based energy solutions and that does not bode well for me and other welders in my area.

What do you think?

(for both parties) I think it's a choice between crap from a cow, a horse, a bull, a chicken, and a few other barnyard animals. At the end of the day, you wrap a ribbon around a terd and it's still a terd. Just my opinion.

Here's a good one I got from another forum...

A cannibal was walking through the jungle and came upon a restaurant operated by a fellow cannibal.
Feeling somewhat hungry, he sat down and looked over the menu...

+ Tourist: $5
+ Broiled Missionary: $10.00
+ Fried Explorer: $15.00
+ Baked Democrat or Grilled Republican: $100.00

The cannibal called the cook over and asked,
'Why such a price difference for the politicians?'

The cook replied, "Have you ever tried to clean one?
They're so full of Crap, it takes all morning!!!" ;) :) :)

Respectfully,
Henry

Dave that is funny for sure....I might have to borrow that phrase in my political discussions here at work.

I am for whoever is for liquid coal.  It used to be Barak before he caved in to the environmentalists.  Now it looks like Romney is the only one in favor of widespread liquid coal technology development.  Maybe Rudi, but he has limits on liquid coal I think to satisfy the environmentalists.  We really need to get going on liquid coal because we only have 35-50 years left on the oil supply, and there will be widespread economic chaos long before that when the shortages hit.  In the 1970's, a 10% shortage caused the price to quadruple.  Forget $3 gas.  When it gets to $10-$12 a gallon people will really be in the big hurts locker!  (Liquid coal would be good for welding work too, but that is not my motivation - yet.)

I'm inclined to agree with the mentality that all we have to chose from is crap from one side or the other.
Sometimes I feel like every four years we are told to chose between diet coke or diet pepsi. I prefer ice-tea. The two party system has morphed into a choice between the lesser of two evils, which, by my math is still evil. I have tended to vote GOP because they are usually more in line with my generally conservative philosophy, but frankly I'm at a point where I just want the guy who stands to be the best problem solver and that looks to be Mitt Romney this go round, but who knows? I could be wrong.

I've voted in every election since I turned 18. I'm 35 now. I refuse to vote for anyone that is not pro-gun...................It's going to be a rough one.

I couldn' agree more! I'm a card carrying NRA member and those who wants to infringe on my second amendment rights will do so without my help! For this reason if it comnes down to Hillary vs Mcain, I'll stay home. I'm suspicious of Guilliani but I'll be listening to the debates and watching the NRA to see how he comes down on this one. As far as I know Romney is in good standing with the NRA.

Do not be lied to.  Juilani is more anti-gun than Hillary.  He is he most anti-gun NAZI in the race.

Ron Paul is the olny person Id vote for out of the choices were given.
If you dont know who he is, google "Ron Paul" and see for your self and get some more sources than the main stream media for your information.

Another one that I should probably have stayed out of.

But what the heck, it's lunch time.

As much as I hate to be this way, I will vote a straight Republican ticket no matter who the candidate is.  The reasons, in my way of thinking, are clear: Democrats are basically running on the platform of: pulling out of Iraq, thus allowing Al Qaida to declare victory; Taxing the crud out of you and I to pay for all those who don't care to work (yes, I know this may not be the intent, but it is the result); removing guns from legal ownership of citizens who are responsible with them; allowing the cesspool of public school systems to follow the wonderful examples to be found in places like California, Washington DC and NYC.  I could go on and on with this, but it's probably better that I don't.

On the bright side.  McCain or Romney, since that's what it looks like down the stretch.  Both have traits and policies I dislike.  Both have a lot of experience which will be valuable to a President.  Of the two, I think it more likely that Romney will win.  Statistically, McCain is done for because of his time in the Senate.  Either one of them has the ability to draw centrists over from the left side of the aisle.  Although Romney was the Governor of the most liberal, socialist state in the union, he is a strong family man and smart as a whip in business.  I have to say, he gets my vote in the primary.  Giuliani is plain old non-electable as a Republican.  His two bitter divorces are the biggest nails in that coffin.  Not that Repubs can't have divorces, but he should have kept it quiet.  Also, wasn't there a time when he endorsed ol' Billary for her Senate seat?  No, this guy is bad news.

Being an ex-draftee, I'm really concerned about Iraq and Ahghanistan.  I wish all, or at least some of the candidates, would address the fact that they are also running for the title of Commander in Chief of the whole military.  That is an immensely difficult role and this needs to be addressed by the candidates.  I can accept, but don't necessarily agree with, a candidate saying they want to pull out of Iraq.  But do they know the huge logistics of doing this?  It probably can't happen in less than six months.

None of the candidates seems to have a pulse on the intricacies of the mideast.  They talk but don't convince me.

Man that would suck if I had to go to jail because I didn't give up my guns.  How's Mccain on our guns?

What's all this fuss I hear about Presidential Erections?
For the gun angle try the Shooters' Forum for great discussion and information.
My personal opinion is that you'd have to be a moron to want the job this time, so I think that's just what we'll get.
Of course, that's not a new situation. W's best three years were fifth grade.
Parent - By 1mancrew (**) Date 01-30-2008 03:36
Not a bad point! I really have to wonder about the mind set of anybody who would want that job but hey; it takes all kinds. Some of us are just wired a little different.

All due respects to you Ron Paul guys but he totaly lost me when he went on the factor and told Bill O'Reilly that he didn't see Iran as being a real big threat. How's the weather in the land of Oz?! The ol' bury your head in the sand aproach and hope the bad men just go away dosen't seem to be a realistic option at this point. 9/11 anyone!!! I think it comes down to a choice of those who understand the threat and those who don't.

GH Weidman

P.S. I get my infomation from a wide variety of media outlets. i.e. main-stream media, talk radio, new media and internet.

Mccain has a few blemishes on his record in that regard, overall his record is pretty good. Problem with Mccain is, he's a politician to the core, and subject to horse trading your rights away.

Remember all of those GW jokes a year or two from now. Bush is a Rhodes scholar compared to any of the ones in the bunch running now. How scary is it that there are actually people in this country that donate to Hitlery Clinton's campaign fund? In my opinion, if you started by rounding all of those idiots up, the USA would be allot better off!
Parent - By OBEWAN (***) Date 01-31-2008 12:52
First time I heard GW was a Rhodes scholar. Last I heard, he was a C student at Yale.  Hardly top shelf.  He has bankruptcy on his resume, and we will have a 9.8 trillion dollar debt when he is through putting the country in the same boat!

And what about "freedom of speech"???????  That was kinda ignorant of you to say, don't you think?  Can't believe you really mean it.

I said that compared to the ones running now, he's a Rhodes scholar. This is called sarcasm. I would also take a C avg yale graduate vs. an A avg. community college graduate any day.
Parent - - By 1mancrew (**) Date 02-01-2008 02:06
To be fair to Bush, he did graduate from Harvard! Al Gore washed out. Feel free to draw your own conclusions. And by the way, Bush is not the most articulate guy to ever hold the office, granted, but have you ever heard Ted Kennedy try to speak without the aid of note cards or a telepromter?!?! No media bias? Hmmm.

All I can say is that the Democratic Party sure knows how to lose an election!

The problem is that Bush can't even read the cheat sheets and has to ad-lib, and we all know how well he does that!

Hi Dave!

I've got a bumper sticker on the rear bumper of my vehicle that says: "Re-Elect NOBODY!!!"
That's my take and I'm sticking to it.

An observation on the general election: it looks like we'll be soon singing the tune: "Bomb - bomb - bomb - bomb-bomb Iran, Bomb - bomb - bomb - bomb-bomb Iran, Bomb Iraaaan!!!!" Looks like its McCain all the way!!!

Respectfully,
Henry

Henry, I have seen stickers similar to Yours, it does have some merrit. It seems to Me that by the time anyone rises high enough in politics that they could actually change anything, that they owe too many favours to too many interests to be able to do what really should be done. If a politician hopes to be in it for a lifetime they can't afford to alienate the voters who keep electing them.

An old timer once told me, "Don't vote for 'em it only encourages 'em!"

Years later I think I might just finally take his advice. If my choice is socialist or socialist-lite what do I care what stupid letter is at the end of their name?!?!

I registered Independant years ago so I really have no dog in this hunt. I came to realize that the only difference between the parties is the special interests that own them!

Hopefully for me Romney can pull it out on Tues. If it comes down to Mcain, I think I'll sit it out.

Remember, it took 4yrs of Carter to get Ronald Reagan!!!

I kept waiting for someone to analogize bill as an alien with a cigar probe. I was not disappointed.
When all that happened a friend of mine bought up some cheap fat cigars in a tube, dunked em in a can of tuna juice and sold at a gun show by calling them lewinski sticks. The amazing thing is people actually bought em. So I am not to sure who is dumber, bill for using a cigar, or the people who bought lewinski sticks.
