I'm saying this politely-- this is not advisable. Consider the circle of weld current you are creating, right back into the coils. (page B-2 of this Owners manual link advises this should not be done)

Matt- you have a 23hp Kohler on your machine? Since its a new machine and you need to be standing next to it while you break it in (unless you have a load bank) grab a couple handfuls of rod, turn the machine to max and runs holes in a plate of steel for 1/2 hour to 45 mins.
