Hi Guys, I'm new to the site so be gentle!!

I have a question regarding materials & grouping in AWS.

Does anyone have any information or tables that cross reference material grades?

Question:

S355K2+N material, How is this grouped in AWS?

Regards,
Hotpass

AWS D1.1 has pre approved base metals listed in table 3.1. But they are listed by ASTM #'s only

If your an AWS member the short version of the B2.1 Base Metal Grouping is on line free, Just log in.... I did run a quick search that number did not come up. https://www.awspubs.com/free_downloads/AWS_B2.1_BMG_BASE_METAL_GROUPING_FOR_WELDING_PROCEDURE_AND_PERFORMANCE_QUALIFICATION.pdf

Hotpass,

Have to agree with Hogan, on this one.  The D1.1 does have pre-qualified groupings for the steel(s) to be used.  If the material is not specifically metioned in one of the groups, then I would consider it to be unlisted.

Not too certain but, S355K2+N might be under the EN 10025 standard for European Structural Steel.

The unlisted material limits you to that specific material used in the PQR.  It is stated in one of the tables in Section 4, sorry Clause 4.  Table 4.9 or some where around there.

Hope that helps.

Without more information (a typical copy of a Material Test Report) the only thing I found out is its a 50ksi typical yield, (345 to 355 MP depending on thickness) and + being bendable quality and is listed as very weldable.
Can you post a typical MTR copy?
