The best I can figure is your guess is correct . The claws do look like the same claws that "wolverine" from the X-MEN has . LOL  If you come across one , I wouldn't try to give it a hug like your teddy bear . LOL        Oh , before you shoot it , you might want to check with the Parks & Wildlife and make sure its legal to shoot .

Lawrence nailed it. It is actually spelled Coatimundi. I saw the same e-mail and could not come up with the correct spelling as well. It is native to South America. Most likely it is either an escapee from a zoo or an exotic pet owner. I am not sure if it is an animal that is sought after by hunters, but if so it may have escaped from a game hunt ranch. There are a few large exotic hunt ranches in Texas.

EDIT: I am glad no one was looking while I was searching for it. I knew what I was looking for but could not spell it for crap. I will just leave it to your imaginations as to how bad and how many times I butchered the spelling on that one. LOL :-)

who would want to kill that ugly thing and have it stuffed and mounted by the way thanks for the help i aint ever seen 1 of them and never heard of the name thats for sure if i had run across it myself it would be dead and left for the buzzards since it is an exotic it is open season on exotics just like axis deer ranchers in the hill country pay to have people come in and kill them off but they are starting to move further south just this year within a months time i have seen 3 close to the house if i ever see 1 without the kids in the truck it'll be in the freezer

There are a lot of them on the Gray Ranch in southern New Mexico. The ranch is now a nature preserve and has numerous species that are not found in the surrounding areas. The ranch is located in the "Bootheel" section of New Mexico. My grandfather hunted there many moons ago and told us how they would come up to the campfire at night. Made some good stories for those who were scared of the dark!

Just a wild guess but. Hog nosed Skunk??

Because they do look much like our normal conspept of skunks and they vary a lot in the own likeness and they get fairly large.
Parent - - By JTMcC (***) Date 04-18-2009 02:29
Coatimundi's are all over Southern Arizona, their cousin the Ring Tail Cat is the AZ state mammal (?!) and the ring tails range a lot farther north.
Welding at night in Northern AZ I've had ring tails trying to get into my Ice chest or lunch bucket many times.

Parent - - By Stringer (***) Date 04-29-2009 01:18
I'm going to reload some ammo right now, but I would never even think of shooting wildlife. Why? It makes no sense to me. I think the animals are great, for the most part. Rodents excepted, which makes me a bigot, I know, but at least I'm honest. If I shoot what's in my back yard, how would I enjoy watching them? Hell, I know I can shoot. I don't need to kill innocent animals to prove it.
Parent - - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 04-29-2009 05:39
not real sure what your talking about but if i shoot it i eat it times are tuff you take what you can get
Parent - By Kix (****) Date 04-29-2009 16:35
That picture you posted is of a sabertooth jungle weasel.  They are not native to the states, but have been found in rare cases.  Your supposed to use extreme caution when around one because they will attack with sabertooth jungle weasel like precision.  The person that took the picture probably did not make it out alive if that tells you anything.  Obama has known about the dangers of this animal for some time now and still does nothing about.  If you see one, shoot it on sight while you still own a gun.
Parent - - By Stringer (***) Date 05-01-2009 02:03
Well, shooting for the supper table, that I understand. I can't eat game anymore...wish I could. What I meant about not shooting wildlife was meant for those who shoot it just to kill it, look at it, and walk off.
Parent - - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 05-01-2009 23:21
why cant ya eat the wild game anymore
Parent - - By Stringer (***) Date 05-02-2009 20:37
Can't eat the wild game because I'm hyper-uricemic, which means I can get gout. So my 200 pounds or so of cookbooks now only benefit my friends when I cook. I'm not fat, but I was drinking lots of St.Pauli Girl and that's loaded with brewers yeast and if you combine that with meat extracts (stews, gravies, sauces), throw in all the shrimp and anchovies and black eyed peas on top and you've got the perfect storm for gouty arthritis. So overnight I'm a tea-totalling vegetarian. It's a bummer, but things change and I can adapt. In this society, one day a doctor will give you bad news. It's just a matter of when and what.
Parent - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 05-03-2009 15:35
that sucks and yeah i know about the bad news from the dr.'s
Parent - - By darren (***) Date 05-05-2009 02:28
have you tried sour cherries or cherry juice?
works wonders.
Parent - By Stringer (***) Date 05-08-2009 00:04
Yeah, Darren, thanks. I do take cherry extract and eat sour cherries, but I'm really changed my diet 180 to see if I can get my uric acid level down without meds. I don't miss the alchohol, which is weird because I drank quite a bit of it, but now I have more money. I don't want to spend those savings on meds.
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 04-29-2009 02:11
Yeah ! He usually sleeps ALOT the day after a safety meeting (mostly in the truck)
Parent - - By swnorris (****) Date 04-29-2009 19:23
Kix,

I saw on this nature show how the male sabertooth jungle weasel douses himself with urine to smell sweeter to the opposite sex. What a coincidence.  So do I.
Parent - - By Kix (****) Date 04-30-2009 12:21
Must be all that sweet tea your drinkin down there cause my urine stanks.lol
Parent - - By swnorris (****) Date 04-30-2009 12:25
I had to stop doing that because the smell was attracting too many Obama supporters.
Parent - - By Kix (****) Date 04-30-2009 13:45
Give it sme time, the Obama (cough cough) nation will dimenish here after awhile.  Then you may carry on. ;-)
Parent - - By Mikeqc1 (****) Date 04-30-2009 16:06
the obamanation is growing stronger everyday and paying less taxes every week. 50% of americans (well people living in the US) pay no taxes but reap the rewards of us that do.

Parent - By kipman (***) Date 04-30-2009 21:11
You spelled that wrong.  I believe that it should be "obamination" instead of "obamanation".  Maybe a subtle difference, but I think the first one gives a more accurate connotation (as it is kind of a derivative of "abomination").
Parent - - By Kix (****) Date 05-01-2009 12:00
This is very true.  I know a lot of people that voted for him that wish they wouldn't of now though.  I guess we can only hope more see the light. lol
