Hi everybody,
I know it's not an AWS subject, but perhaps someone is able to solve my doubt. I have a welded branch connection- please take a look at the sketch attached. Pipe header ASTM a 335 Gr p 11- P N° 4- thickness 25.4 mm/ Branch connection ASTM a 335 Gr p 11- P N° 4- thickness 16.0 mm (PWHT). It was welded with a weld detail according to # 331.1.3, Fig-328.5.4D, sketch (1). Tab-331.1.1 specify that the thickness range regarding to PWHT must be > 13.0 mm. My question is does this welded branch connection need to be submitted to PWHT? Thank you all in advance.

Norberto

The governing thickness in accordance to your drawing is 26mm, which is exactly 2x the allowable >13mm.

IMO, PWHT is not required.
