Hello
i want to weld 2 sheets of ultrafine grained aluminium (produced by ARB process) by cold roll bonding and test the residual stress in the weld zone.
can you help me about the ways of measure the residual stress (except XRD) ?
can anyone help me about the ABACUS software ?
thanks

The only way I know to measure residual stress is by X ray difractometry. Is there any other?
Is Abacus software used to measure residual stress after welding? If so, I'd also wish to know about it.

Hi Giovanni!

Here are some other methods used to measure residual stresses:

http://www.shotpeener.com/library/pdf/2008016.pdf

Here's another paper covering the UT method of residual stress measurement:

http://www.itlinc.com/pdf/33_Paper_on_UCC.pdf

These folks are pretty good at measuring residual stresses using primarily X-ray diffraction, but mechanical methods as well:

http://www.lambdatechs.com/laboratory-services/residual-stress.html

Here's one of their other methods  of measuring residual stresses using a Ring Core mechanical method as opposed to XRD:

This is from the Los Alamos National Lab:

Here's another interesting paper which describe a mechanical method used to measure residual stresses in weld overlay pipe:

http://www.iasmirt.org/SMiRT12/F03-3.pdf

This paper describes the use of a combination of XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) and mechanical  (strain gage) techniques in order to measure residual stresses resulting from the fabrication process of Alloy 600 nozzle and heater sleeve mock-ups:

Another good article:

Here is another interesting method of measuring residual stresses:

Another interesting paper on measuring Residual stresses in thick Q&T steels:

Here's one of my favorites:

And finally this paper:

Edit: I almost forgot these three papers:

And how could I forget this from Colorado State University:

Or this one authored by one of your very own countrymen Giovanni:

Here you go Moshen...

Here's a forum where you can ask specific questions regarding the ABAQUS software ,and there are some folks who may be able to help you out:

Here's an interesting paper which just happens to originate from your country Giovanni:
