learned something new today,my old 200 will lay dn some pretty nice beads on aluminum.those rods aint cheap though

What brand of rods did you use, the size and where did you have the machine set. I've got a small repair job and it would be easier to go and stick weld it.

hi alloy rods 3/32 hi alloy 35.had my machine set in 2nd gear at 30.it was maybe 10guage

Thanks for the reply. Its not a big job, just a couple of cross braces on a crawfish boat that needs to be rewelded.

stick welding aluminum is like running 5p but if the piece you are welding turns red its to late it will pop out and then you have a hole to fill so you have to run it fast

Thanks for the information, I really appreciate it. I never did any aluminum stick welding before, and the customer didn't want to load the boat if he didn't have to, so I'll give it a try and hope it comes out good. Don't want the boat to sink.

Who makes alloy 35 rods? I have used alloy 26 rods from Harris with good success.

The can says hi alloy out of houston

tried some many years go we were welding up ring grooves on large diameter pistons. Tig worked great .
Salesmen came in and convinced the boss that this stick rod would do the same quicker faster and cheaper
maybe the rods improved but we threw it all in the trash.
