Anybody still using 7028 in the shop or has it finally been fazed out by MIG and FCMAW.

Sincerely,
Kent

Good question. I'm also curious to see what someone will answer to it.

I'm mostly with Wade.  If I want a low hydrogen electrode I use the XX18's.

While I prefer 7024 over 7028 it is not a low hydrogen and can't be used in many applications.

And in the shop, as well as when appropriate with winds and other factors here in AZ, I will take a wire feed anyday.

Have a Great Day,  Brent

I don't think you see this so much in a shop as in the field. In a shop situation, FCAW is easier to have and use. If you are needing high depositing welding 60 feet in the air, or in a wide open situation where wind cannot be blocked or controlled, the 702X SMAW is better. The equipment is a stinger, ground and a welder.

Nope. When we run LH its XX18 or 11018. I like 7024 much better than 7028 it's faster in my opinion. We still burn a bunch of stick due to accessability and time in the field over FCAW. In the shop though almost everything is GMAW, FCAW and GTAW.

Last shop I worked at we used 7028 in the shop just cause we didn't feel like dragging the mig machine around. the shop i work at now uses 6027.
