% of full screen width divided by ?   I FORGOT!!!!!!

???
sound path x sin of the angle = surface distance
sound path x cos of the angle = depth
depth x tan of the angle = surface distance
surface distance / sin of the angle = sound path
depth / cos of the angle = sound path
surface distance / tan of the angle = depth

I use these to do the basic calcs and reverse check them.

Don't get too dependant on the trig functions in your machine....it is easy to forget how to figure everything off the Soundpath, if you aren't careful.

Are you asking about locating the leg positions on the screen?  %FSW = Leg divided by the Range

Soundpath = %FSW times the Range

The topic was "UT formula for detecting flaw depth" I assumed he was looking for the flaw depth calc.

Straight beam!

Depth = %FSW x Range

ie indication is at 32% FSW on a 5" screen
.32 x 5" = 1.6" deep

ahh why didn't you say so? :twisted:

John,

Thanks for your timely response, and sorry for not specifing mode of sound transmission. It wacked me in the head at 5:00 this AM; I just felt like a schlep because I could not remember!
