Hi friendz, clear the doubts technically

Query: I have the approved WPS  GTAW+SMAW Process, In this mean Root weld by GTAW process and  fill & cap passes weld by SMAW process. One of my welder did the welding with GTAW one layer in the capping pass with SMAW process another 2 layers capping pass.

Is tehcnically wrong? if acceptable means what sec.IX and or ASME B31.3 says.

Is what wrong?  Two different weldors?  But, I don't understand your concern.

If the WPS calls for a GTAW root and SMAW fill and you did that I would think you are in compliance.

But one thing to watch out for is the minimum layer thickness.  Sometimes more than one pass is required for the root portion.  But that should be stated on the WPS and PQR or in the code - especially if the customer has their own weld standard.

Each welder must be qualified for the deposited weld metal thickness for the process they are using on the joint.  A welder qualified for smaw only may weld on the joint with smaw. And the welder qualified with gtaw only may weld on it.

Guys,
I think the question is not regarding two welders but one welder using two processes on the capping runs.
The way I read it the cap is made up of 3 runs - one run GTAW, two runs SMAW. (Why, I have no idea ?)
I cannot see any problem as long as all deposited weld metal variables have been complied with,
Regards,
Shane

I think you are right. I have been known to "mix it up" myself.

Maybe they tried to run a GTAW wash pass to smooth part of the cap?

Yes, you are correct.

I think so, The cap pass  may have some defects as undercut, then welders perform welding repair by GTAW.

Yes, You understood my question.
