It should be noted that the manual is written with NAVSEA welding standards and MIL-STD-2035A in mind.
It looks good except for page 65, welding symbols: the sketch for the bevel grooves are backwards. The vertical line should always be toward the left and the inclined line toward the right per AWS A2.4.
Some of the terminology is different and the criteria is different from what one may used to seeing in the AWS structural welding codes and AWS standards. I would have to double check the glossary of NAVSEA TP248 and 278 to see if it is consistent with the NAVSEA requirement that terms and definitions not included in their glossary be in accordance with AWS 3.0. So, "near side" of the welding symbol is in error.
It is interesting they didn't include a reference to the reentrant angle for toe of groove welds and fillet welds. They did give an interesting method of evaluating the toe. The fillet gages must be unique to Huntington Ingalls, because they are not off-the-shelf filet weld gages manufactured by Fiber-metal or G.A.L.
Someone did a lot of work putting this together. Nice work.
Since they take such delight in busting our chops with their review of our WPS', it is great fun to return the favor!!!!
