Dear All ,

Please clarify CJP groove welds in butt joints transverse to the direction of computed tensile stress . i'm not sure about this sentence its same longitudinal weld or not ? .

Sorry for my language

It's not the same as longitudinal.  Transverse is situated or extended across, and longitudinal is running lengthwise, rather than across.

For ensure
this is answer or not ?

If the porosity is elongated, i.e., located on the surface and parallel to the axis of the weld, it is acceptable per D1.1.

If the porosity is elongated and the axis of the porosity is perpendicular to the weld face, it is rejected per D1.1.

The direction of computed tensile stress... a stress that when imposed, attempts to pull apart or stretch, needs to be determined.  If the porosity is not running parallel with the direction of this computed tensile stress, but instead, running across the direction of computed tensile stress, there can be no visible piping porosity.

Thanks Al.  Hope you don't mind any of us saving that to use for educational purposes.  You come up with fabulous illustrations to help understand code terminology.  Try explaining this to people with little background and poor comprehension skills unless they have great visual aids and even hands on samples.

That's why we do what we do.

Thanks for the compliment.

Really is good work Al,

What medium/proggie/software do you use to make those awesome drawings ?

AutoCAD 2000.

It is an old edition, but it works and it would cost $6000 to upgrade. It is good enough. The problem is, in order to upgrade to Windows using 64 bit processing, I would have to upgrade AutoCad. Thus, I purchased my last two computers with that in mind.
