Doing a PQR requalification for a customer and it is requiring CVN testing.  The customer didnt let us know that this was a re-qual till later on.  It begas as a regular PQR and they wanted CVN's added.  So now the job they are tryin to grab flagged them on the thickness of the plate and their range qualified.  Table 4.6 line (2) States :""Minimun thickness qualified is T or 5/8 in whichever is less, except if T is less than 1/4 in, then the minimum thickness qualified is 1/8th in.""

Now why does this change the range qualified?   It was a 3/4"  A633 plate welded with FCAW-G  Had it just been a regular PQR from the start the range would have been 1/8th-2T.  I dont understand why the range is different because of CVN's, can someone help me out?

Because that was the consensus of the committee.

Any Idea why they came to that conclusion?

Jordan,

Take a look at the C-2.3.2 commentary on notch toughness requirements.  It may be helpful.
