Very sorry to say, I am hearing reports that Nanjing aka Nantong has passed away after a short illness! I know he ruffled a few feathers on here but he was always correct on his facts and very articulate to press his very extensive knowledge across! He helped me many times without question! I will Miss you John!

RIP Nanjing

For those that didn't know him, his name was John and he lived and worked in Nanjing, China most of the time lately but was from Scotland originally!

He could argue anyone down, but usually (always) had the facts to back himself up! Not many on here knew as much about welding as he did!

He was better for knowing because he didn't stand fools easily, and I mean his take of fools not mine! He did have several fall outs on here and they are pretty epic reading to be honest! I even think he got banned at one point because they didn't know how to handle him, hence the name change from nanjing to nantong!

I guess that was his scottish coming out in him!

I know he was a wealth of info and was a true gent when you talked one to one which I did regularly! He helped me loads with no questions asked! I will miss him along with Chuck Meadows who was another great contributor on here as well who helped me personally!

What a tremendous loss.
Not only to this forum, but for the whole welding community.
For me, one of the most outstanding individuals in both welding expertise and firmness of character.
I will miss him.
Rest in peace John.

EDIT:
"An honest man here lies at rest,
As e'er God with his image blest;
the friend of man, the friend of truth,
The friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm'd,
Few heads with knowledge so informed;
If there is another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this
".

Robert Burns, Scottish poet and lyricist (1759 - 1796)

Glyn,

:sad: I never met John but with some private messages I made friends with him and learned that we used work for a same international company.

It's sad to hear this. May his soul rest in peace~

Hello 46.00, sorry to hear of this. As said, a wealth of information and many will miss and miss out on his contributions to the welding world. We are fortunate to at least have the search function of the forum to allow his legacy to live on. Best regards, Allan
