Trying different things to make sure this is the legit aws forum.
Parent - By ctacker (****) Date 03-22-2015 23:14
I think AWS got to much backlash before, when they would tell us in advance things were changing. Now they just change without warning.
Parent - - By welderbrent (*****) Date 03-22-2015 23:20
They have been working for some time at changing the look of the whole website, forum, logo, all of it.  Making it more 'contemporary'.

I just think it looks like we have too much money to spend on people who know nothing about welding.

Great, now I have to redo all my lessons and powerpoint for preparing for the CWI exam.  They changed the whole layout of the main forum as well.

It looks like you will need two endorsements now for the 9 year re certification also. When did that change?
Parent - - By welderbrent (*****) Date 03-23-2015 04:08
Haven't looked at that yet, if one of the ones is bolting then it has been that way.  Bolting doesn't count for the full amount of PDH's because they don't consider it a 'code' endorsement.

Well it may be new, but at least I still see the ever watchful eye of ESAB up yonder in the top right corner.
Parent - By Metarinka (****) Date 03-23-2015 17:11
I would panic if that was gone.
Parent - - By 46.00 (****) Date 03-23-2015 20:34
I use Adblock Pro which is a free extension, works for me! No nasty ESAB logo!
Parent - By ctacker (****) Date 03-23-2015 23:13
I use it too, and have not seen the logo since I installed it.

The code endorsements give you 40 pdh's now, if I remember right, you need 80 for renewal. Bolting gives you 20.

The next following response under this one was taken from the new website at this link:

http://www.aws.org/certification/EndorsementsFAQs

then go to almost the bottom to 'What Current Endorsements Are Offered By AWS?'

ctacker,

This is off the current/new website under FAQ in the 'Certification' section.  Plus, even though they state under each one that it is only good for 40 PDH's, they refer you to QC1 which along with B5.1 still indicate that the taking/passing of one endorsement qualifies the person for nine year renewal.  Read on:

"Currently, the following examinations or certification programs may be considered as endorsements for CWIs and SCWIs if the candidate passes the exams. With the exception of AWS Structural Bolting Inspection exam, endorsement exams and the CRI count as full credit for 9-year CWI/SCWI recertification if obtained any time during the current 9-year cycle."

AWS D1.1 Structural Steel *

AWS D1.2 Structural Aluminum *

AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding *

AWS D15.1 Railroad *

API 1104 Pipeline *

AWS D17.1 Aerospace *

AWS Structural Drawing Reading (Closed book)

ASME Section IX, B31.1, + B31.3 *

ASME Section VIII, Div. 1 and Section IX *

AWS Certified Radiographic Interpreter (CRI) program (also a stand-alone program and credential)

AWS Structural Bolting Inspection (Open book) - Earn 20 PDHs toward your 9-Year recertification

So, best I can tell, you still only need ONE endorsement to recertify at your nine year.

I seen that also, I just ASSumed AWS hasn't gotten around to updating the rest of the website.
Thanks,
Carl

Does the forum looks busy, cluttered, and cheap to anyone else now?  That is how it looks to me.  Maybe there are some settings somewhere I need to tweak.  Looks like there is not enough room between lines of text of the page.
Parent - By welderbrent (*****) Date 03-24-2015 00:39
When you hit 'reply' and look across over the smilies, it is difficult to make out the various functions: bold, italics, etc.

Ross or Roque or whoever, if you are watching this to see our reactions, you might try to darken the contrast on those.

Yep, someone at AWS is trying hard to justify their wage.
Parent - By Blaster (***) Date 03-24-2015 20:45
I went to a 20 Times font and now the lines of text are no longer touching each other... big improvement.

To all,

I received an email this am informing me of the new look to the AWS forum.  LOL.

It would be nice if there was a tab at the top of the home page for the forum. Unless I am missing something.

I also received an email about the change yesterday at 3:30 pm. By that time I had already been looking all through it. Lol
Parent - By Lawrence (*****) Date 03-24-2015 14:44
I have no snarky complaints for Ross

Looks ok to me...
Parent - - By welderbrent (*****) Date 03-24-2015 15:37
to Terri,

When on the AWS Website Home Page, go across the top to 'Resources'.  Then on the right you will find a drop down and go to the bottom to 'All Forums'.  It will take you straight here.

Thanks Brent. I had found it under the Certification tab at the top but it went straight to certification. It is also at the bottom of the home page under 'What's Trending'.

I think the new website will be better once I have it navigated. I like the way it looks.
Parent - - By welderbrent (*****) Date 03-24-2015 18:24
You are so right.  I totally missed it there.  Makes it pretty easy.

But, mine is on a favorites bar that bypasses the main website and just brings me to the forum.  I come here more than I have need of going there.

Ross is no longer with AWS.
Parent - By welderbrent (*****) Date 03-25-2015 14:23
Wow, when you said that I had to grab the services directory and have a look.  Sure enough, Ross' name is no longer there.

Best wishes Ross.

I didn't know that either.

Parent - - By welderbrent (*****) Date 03-27-2015 17:38
For confirmation, he has updated his Linked In profile and lists AWS as 'previous'.  Gives a new employment name, not relevant.

The new format is not so radically different to have caused my limited computerizing skills to be adversely affected.
I wish that the powers in charge could tweak it so when we post to an existing comment that ALL of the previous ones would be displayed. Sometimes we respond redundantly or miss information in early posts that would help the accuracy of our responses.

I am kinda getting used to it now and it looks good!
Parent - By 522029 (***) Date 04-04-2015 15:56
Looks normal now.

Maybe it is me, but I can-t seem to embed a sketch with my post. I can attach it, but not embed it.
