Does  stress releiving of electron beam welded SS 304 weldment has any effect on mechanical properties? A literature said tensile strength is decreased by stress releiving, is this true?

Thanx

Sttess releiving regular ss 304 suffers a loss in corrosion resistance due to second phase precipitation when heated in the sensitizing range. Does this affect mechanicals too?

Not all base metals respond to heat treatments in the same manner. If I'm not mistaken, austenitic stainless steels are usually SAWQ as the typical PW heat treatment to rid the weldment of sensitization rather than heating the alloy to 1100 to 1200 degrees F and then cooling. The latter would definitely result in sensitization.

I have read that to get rid of sensitized metal after welding, solution annealing is done. Heating the weldment to almost 1100 degree celcius followed by quenching, this dissociates the chromium carbide at grain boundaries and bring back chromium into the solution, reprecipitation is prevented by quenching. Hence corrosion resistance is restored. What is SAWQ you mentioned in your last post?

Exactly what you just described my friend. SAWQ - solution anneal, water quench.

Haha, i was taking SAW as submerged arc welding and thinking what Q could denote
