As it has been pointed out earlier, there is a lot of information missing out here

on ASME IX this is possible depending on the welding process

A welder qualified for P-number 8 [Stainless steels] is also qualified for P-number 1 [carbon steel]
A welder qualified for F-number 6 can weld all F-number 6 [Rods, and Wires]

It is a matter of checking the code you're welding to.

for F-number qualification for welders - QW-433

For future reference what you can do is go to the following QW's for any information on the essential variables for a given process, afterwards you just have to follow the path to the other QW's it references

I qualified a welder on carbon steel to carbon steel (A106 to A106) so that they can weld a stainless steel to stainless steel (304 to 304) :grin:
