CAN ALLOY STEEL AISI 4130 BE WELDED TO HARDOX PLATE . THE COMPOSITION IS DIFFERENT WITH AISI 4130 with max of 0.30 % carbon and hardos with nearly 0.16% C , Tensile strength of hardox is in the range of 145-150 KSI compared to 80-95 KSI in AISI 4130.

Hardness of hardox( 40 HRC) is higher than AISI 4130   (22 HRC MA
CAN  E10018 D2  electrodes be used for welding these two materials ??

What are the points to be considered before performing the welding

to weld hardox 400 use low hydrogen e7018 or 8018 or equivivalent in any other welding process with preheat upto 75 C for thickness upto 30mm

cmshone & SS,
Welcome to the Original AWS Welding Forum.

Go to the SSAB website or Google "welding Hardox" for a pdf of recommendations.
SS is correct for using low(er) strength filler, unless you need the weld to be wear resistant.

Above all, use low hydrogen process and procedures.
