I have a project with X-42 to X-65 pipe grades.
If a welder test on the X-65 WPS does he / she also have to test to weld to the X-52 WPS?
I know in 1104 pipe grade is an essential variable for procedure qualifications but for welder qualifications only OD and WT are essential variables.

No, not required.
The only essential variable you have to be aware of is a change in filler material classification (if any)
Cheers,
Shane
