Up Topic Welding Industry / General Welding Discussion / Multiple welding process on PQR according to AWS D1.1-2015

Hi. Everyone
I have two points to discuss with an expert.
1. If we plan to use multiple welding processes on production weld. Mandatory or not the PQR shall be qualified with multiple welding processes?
2. If Yes. In the future, if we need to use only one welding process. can we use the existing PQR to support the WPS?

Thank you in advance
STP.

AWS D1.1 is not set up to qualify more than one process on a single test plate. This differs from ASME or AWS B2.1 where the thickness range is based on the thickness of the deposit as well as the thickness of the test coupon. AWS D1.1 is based on the thickness off the coupon exclusively. That being the case, how would you determine the qualified thickness range of each process based on D1.1?

Thank for the answer.
One more question regarding AWS D1.1-2015.
Question: one WPS can support by two or more PQR?

Thank you in advance

Yes, you can have one PQR for GTAW to weld the root and a second PQR to support completing the weld with a different welding process.
