Is it required to check the the bevel/ groove angle after backgouging during the WPS qualification process in accordance with AWS D1.1? What clause mentioned?

It would depend on the edition you are using. Regardless of the edition, there is a clause that states back gouges should resemble a prequalified J-, or U-groove. Now, if you are taking the position that you are qualifying the WPS to establishing the minimum contour of a back gouge, you can do so, just make sure you record the data on the PQR.
