any have an easy to use formula for figuring out how many lbs. of say 1/8 6010 it takes for a 3/16 fillet weld or 1/8 7018 to do x number of feet of weld
lbs. per ft.

SMAW welding can have a varying deposition efficiency based on Stub Loss.

There are some charts o ESABS website like the one shown at http://www.weldinginspectionsvcs.com/LowHydIP.htm and you will also find one for stub loss correction at http://www.esabna.com/EUWeb/FM_handbook/577fm8_1.htm
The lbs per foot for a fillet weld can be calculated using

.187x.187/2x12x.283

Standard Deposition efficiencies are around .59 to .62 depending upon electrode length and vary more with changes in stub loss.

The formulas used in one of the programs on my website are taken from ESABS filler metal handbook with permission.

Call me or email me if you have any questions. The programs that may help are at http://www.weldinginspectionsvcs.com/welding_and_qc_software.htm but the best is the spreadsheet which was written by someone else. VERY GOOD.

n5uzt,
I have used those spreadsheets on Gerald's site and have found them very helpful. I have some charts in a old book Lincoln published, "Procedure handbook of Arc Welding Design & Practice" 11th edition, copyright 1956. If I can remember where they are in that book, I'll be happy to fax you a copy of the pages that chart is on, provided I can locate them again. Email me your fax number if you are interested. I think there is also a chart that helps determine the #'s of filler/ft. that have already been deposited in a as welded condition. basically helps figure the area of the cross section based upon whether the fillet weld is convex or concave.

Gerald,
Haven't seen much of you. I guess that means you have been very busy.
Good to see you,
John Wright
