I did some test for welding 304L with pulse Mig. The plate thickness is 2.5mm, the wire is ER308LSi, 0.9mm Dia.
Welding position: Vertical up
Backup: Fibre Glass
Joint: Butt
I could not make a good weld.
Do you have ideas, suggestions? Any feed back will be appreciated.

Agog,

Here are a couple of parameter sets that ought to get you close.

These parameters are suggested for 0.035/0.9mm wire along with Ar-He-CO2 gas mix

IPM/MPM------APK-------VPK-------Abk-------PPS-------PWms

700/17.8------403-------33.9-------132-------191---------2.8
400/10.2------318-------31.6---------87-------146--------2.4
200/5.1-------295-------28.5---------53--------94 --------1.9 ***
100/2.5-------280-------26.0---------32--------45---------1.8

*** I would start my trials about here

Another one you can try is for use with argon+5%CO2 or Argon Oxygen

Wire feed-----APK--------Vpk---------Abk-----------PPS----------PWms

500-----------350-370----34-36------50-100-------130-180-----1.8-2.0

Key:
APK= Peak Amps
VPK= Peak Volts
Abk= Background Amps
PPS= Pulses per second
PWms= Pulse width

If the arc is too long and the puddle appears too wet and out of control you can begin by turning down the trim (assuming your wire feeder has this function)

Fillet or Groove weld?

Tell us what type of power source and wire feeder and shielding gasses you have available, and I think you might get even more help.

Thanks.
I'll try the second parameters.
Joint: Butt without groove (2.5mm thickness).
Gas: Ar+O2
Equipment: ESAB Pulse Arc II 550
Feeder: Mighty 4HD.
Note: 1)The Pulse is built-in the power source, it adjusts the frequency automatically.
2) It has background and Trim adjustment.
3) I have tried horizontal position. No problem.
