Hello Kix, as I have been informed, the various hose types can, in some instances, have an effect on performance as well as safety when you look at their use. Inert gas hoses and shielding gas hoses are specified for use due to their lack of oils in the manufacturing process, that way you will not suffer contamination of the gas due to oils being present in the hose itself. Other hoses, those used for oxy/acet and oxy/fuel applications are also slightly different. I have been told there are two different types of hoses for this use, R1 and R2, I don't specifically remember at this time which is which, but one of these hose specifications is specifically for use with oxy/acet and the other can be used for either oxy/acet or oxy/fuel. You certainly would not want to use just any hose for oxygen service, especially if there are oils present in the hose, a definite safety issue. Using a hose with oil in it's make-up for inert gas or shielding gas application might not present a safety issue, but could cause contamination of the weld pool through introduction of the oils in the hose. Hope this is what your question concerned. I believe that downhandonly actually might be using oxy/propane on his truck, as I noticed a bottle on the outside, a possibility. Regards, aevald
