My hat off to your wife. I tried college but seemed to be pulled torwards a blue collar career... welding. It comes soo easy to me and I am relaxed when doing it. I'm more hands-on type of a guy. If the education is or relates to welding ... I'm all over it. The english and other garble just messes it up for me.

Man I'm the same way, I didn't do any college time, would rather work, hard work will get you farther in life than anything, there are to many college graduates these days, skilled labor is in high demand. I've learned more from the hands on than any book or all the books could teach you?

Parent - By snuffman (***) Date 07-17-2008 04:18
Aint nothing like the sound of an old sa 200 and the smell of 6010 to get ya going.
Parent - By Justin O (**) Date 07-17-2008 13:42
yea were doin a double stopple bypass this week.  gauranteed 60hrs a week

thanks it took forever for me to get time to get it painted.  yours is pretty nice jeremy what kind of wheels are those
Parent - - By tighand430 (***) Date 07-14-2008 23:30
Ultras. I was gonna get some 19.5s but couldn't find any that I liked. Think I'll see how these Goodyears hold up to the other tires I've tried. If they don't get any more mileage out of em, they're gone and will get some 19.5s no matter what they look like. A tire that only gets 30K before they're worn out aint gonna make it.
Parent - - By Justin O (**) Date 07-14-2008 23:35
I have the same problem been through almost every dam brand there is
Parent - - By RioCampo (***) Date 07-15-2008 01:32
I have come to the conclusion that no tire will go where we go.
Parent - - By Justin O (**) Date 07-15-2008 01:39
i feel the same way so i quit trying to find the perfect tire
Parent - - By RioCampo (***) Date 07-15-2008 01:43
I have been using yokahoma lately, 140 bucks beats the hell out of 200 if you only gonna get 25 to 30k out of them anyway. Hell I can run a stob through a cheap tire just as easily as an expensive one.
Parent - - By Justin O (**) Date 07-15-2008 01:50
no doubt i agree completely im trying the nitto mud grapplers but they are very proud of those dam things.
Parent - - By pypLynr (***) Date 07-15-2008 12:51 Edited 07-15-2008 13:01
I have found that the Nitto's don't last as long as the Toyo M/T's. My brotherinlaw runs toyo's and so does a bunch of my buds. They are pricey ,though. $200-250 a piece! My buddy Brandon got 52,000 out of his last set of toyo's on his '04 4x4 dodge quadcab dually. He runs his own construction company so he is in all kinds of terrain with rocks and mud. He has good luck with them , but he hates the $1500 a set.

For some reason I can't open any pics from photobucket. Anybody know what the problem is?
Parent - - By pypLynr (***) Date 07-15-2008 13:12
Hey justin, that is one BADA** rig my friend. I saw it in a posting on welding beds. I'm building a SWB quad cab out of my 2500 right now. Too bad I didn't go with the 4x4, though. I might trade 'er in for a 4x4 before I start. Do you have any advise on building a SWB rig? Do's or don'ts?
Parent - By Justin O (**) Date 07-15-2008 15:03
mine is a mega cab so it had a short bed but i stretched the bed and put a gooseneck hitch on the very back to haul my travel trailer.  so with it being so far back i put air bags and 2" lifting blocks on the rear and it pulls good.
Parent - - By Justin O (**) Date 07-15-2008 15:04
ill have to try those next i hate buying tires all the time.
Parent - - By texwelder (***) Date 07-17-2008 04:02
Where are the pics fellas? Need to see more rigs, as soon as I get mine finished I'll put pics up,
Parent - - By pypLynr (***) Date 07-17-2008 04:29
Mine are coming soon. I'm gonna washtub at first but have plans of a SWB rig. Justin O is my inspiration... I can't say it enough, BADA** RIG !!
Parent - - By Justin O (**) Date 07-17-2008 13:50
thanks i appreciate it
Parent - - By pypLynr (***) Date 07-17-2008 13:59
Hey Justin, do you still have your bed off of your truck?
Parent - - By Justin O (**) Date 07-17-2008 14:07
yea its at my house
Parent - - By pypLynr (***) Date 07-17-2008 14:09
Do you have plans for it or would you be willing to sell it ?
Parent - - By Justin O (**) Date 07-17-2008 14:11
not sure yet  make an offer  how long is your bed
Parent - - By pypLynr (***) Date 07-17-2008 14:14
Its a SWB ... 6 ft. I think. I don't what its worth ... you got a # in mind?
Parent - - By Justin O (**) Date 07-17-2008 14:22
are you goin to make custom mounting brackets because the mega cab beds are like 6 1/2 ft long i think
Parent - - By pypLynr (***) Date 07-17-2008 14:26
Well , I know that my SWB is the same as yours because I talked to marsh welding about his mega cab conversions.  He said they are one in the same bed ... just that the mega bed has fenders. I will double check , though.
Parent - - By Justin O (**) Date 07-17-2008 18:40
I will measure the bed when i get to the house about 6 I hope.
Parent - By pypLynr (***) Date 07-17-2008 18:57
Let me know your ballpark # ... maybe we can do business. I'm STILL looking for some hub extensions for the front. The junkyard wants to sell the whole hub assembly. Too much $$ for the whole thing. I'm gonna check the dealer and see how much new ones are.
Parent - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 07-21-2008 07:27
i put those toyos on my dodge 2 w/d but it was rigged out they lasted about a yr but i was running 200 miles a day and up and down rig roads the set of 6 cost me around 1200
Parent - - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 07-21-2008 07:23
what did you have to do to get your mchine in your truck the way it is i also have a dodge with reg bed on it had it rigged once but sold the machine and then i got sick and still recovering but have 2 other machines and i wanna slowly start riggin back out
Parent - - By tighand430 (***) Date 08-10-2008 16:43
Sorry it's taken me so long to get reply. Been busy testin and aint had access to the internet in a while. I had to cut the nose cone down as much as I could, think about 2" or so, and set it in at about a 30-45 degree angle.  I've got mine on a 3" high skid in the bed so the armature would fit into the recessed part of the bed. Got about 3/4" clearance from the bedside to end of armature cap. Be carful takin it out as you can bend the side rails up pretty bad. I pulled mine up about and inch or so when I took it out in the yard but can't get mad, it's a work truck.
Parent - - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 08-11-2008 00:09
no big deal on the reply i got nuthin but time still healing lol i built a 4'' shid with a drawer in the back for hand tools so it should clear just fine and i have a end cap already cut thanks for the help by the way your machine dont look like it's at an angle but the pic is at an angle too anyway thanks for the reply now i know it'll fit lol i'll have to move my act bottle racks where did you put yours
Parent - - By texwelder (***) Date 08-11-2008 00:13
I think he meant he had to put it in there at a angle, some guys used to cut holes in the beds, you could always do that. haha
Parent - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 08-11-2008 00:17
i'll put it in there like the last 1 was before i cut any holes
Parent - - By tighand430 (***) Date 08-11-2008 00:47
The piece of chanel stickin up in front of the hoosier pole is for the acetylene bottle and the oxygen goes into a rack that goes next to the box. It uses up alot of room but I don't like the bottles stickin up over the cab. Here's a pic of the setup. Don't mind the blue machine in the back, the contractor made us take out our machines and put those in for running the flux-cored wire that they got. Hope it aint in there long.
Parent - - By texwelder (***) Date 08-11-2008 01:13
Is it a pipe pro? Them aint bad machines from what I hear.
Parent - - By tighand430 (***) Date 08-11-2008 03:12
Yes it is a pipe pro.  My buddy put one on his rig yesterday mornin and brought it back after 5 hours with a blown motor and a total of 9 hours on the machine. I heard that the welder foreman is tryin to get new Lincolns on the job but it's just rumors. It runs the wire alright but just don't, for me anyway, put a bead in this X-80 like my 200 will. It does run the hell out of the low hydrogen rods though. We'll have the option to buy the machines at the end of the job so we'll see how it plays out.
Parent - - By texwelder (***) Date 08-11-2008 03:19
well one of my machines is a vantage 300, same thing will run a lo-hi like nothing I've welded with before, but I think my 97 sa-250 will run the 5p+ better, but I haven't used the vantage with 5p+ alot yet, practice makes perfect.
Parent - - By tighand430 (***) Date 08-11-2008 23:29
Some of the guys out here have some Vantage 300s that they got on while on the west leg of the line and they love them. It'll put in a bead better than the Pipe Pro, at least, make it hump up a lil more. I might get to liking the Miller but it'll take alot of time before that happens.
Parent - By texwelder (***) Date 08-11-2008 23:39
All around I love my vantage 300 it a damn nice machine quite, smooth, and easy on fuel, and looks pretty nice, just hadn't it on x-ray work yet, good to hear that some guys love'em for that.
Parent - - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 08-11-2008 03:28
thanks for the pic i can rig up a rack like that how did ya set the hoosier pole i'm guess it is set in siockets set  in the skid so you can get the machine out i bet it sucks havin to take all them boxes n stuff off to get the machine out but i still like them longways w the cab settin the length of the bed jus looks bad to me
Parent - - By tighand430 (***) Date 08-11-2008 23:25
The pole is bolted down onto the skid. I drilled the holes and welded nuts on the inside so that when I take it off, there is nothin stickin up from the skid. Aint got to pull nothing out to pull the welder. Just get the machine, the 200, up on an angle and she'll slide right out without much worry. The worst part of movin the machine is gettin to the two bolts that hold it down, but A little patience and they'll come out.
Parent - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 08-12-2008 01:47
ok thanks now i know what ya meant about the angle in the earlier post now i just gotta get some diamond plate to floor the rest of my skid and 2 small tool boxes my oxt bottle rack is pretty much like yours but i lay it flat so i can set stuff on it either way it dont leave much room
Parent - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 08-11-2008 00:11
never mind on the bottle rack i looked again and saw it i run a 145 bottle and a 225 bottle i'll have to do sum figuring on it i use short pieces of pipe with set screws guess they will go lol
Parent - - By rockin d (**) Date 07-18-2008 19:33
Id hate to take this down a pipeline right-a-way
Parent - - By snuffman (***) Date 07-18-2008 19:39
Thats sharp. Did you build that bed?
Parent - By rockin d (**) Date 07-18-2008 20:03
no sir the owner of the rig built it. we are running beads on a pipeline & his machine is on my truck(my poor truck gets the beating). took him about 2 months , He'd work on it just in spurts, when ever he had time. can you notice the flagging tape, we left x-ray w/out ribbon to play a joke on him we had a sign that said look but don't touch .
Parent - - By pypLynr (***) Date 07-18-2008 19:39 Edited 07-18-2008 19:44
Is that yours? I wonder where you  got that water can ? That , my friend , is a piece of bling! The chromage on that rig is FLY ! I likes it ...I likes it alot!
