The job is going as planned. It is taking a little longer than originaly planned to get all of the drawings approved. But, I think they will be aproved to order steel on July 10. This should put us starting fabrication the first week in August. THE PAY WILL BE $55.00 PER HOUR FOR WELDERS. I also need Structural fitters with RIG experience. Pay BOE. We will be working all the hours you can stand. We are still working on pay days. The will be at least every two weeks. I am trying to make it every week. Test will be either 1/2" or 1" vertical plate. As per the Engineer ,all rods used will be 70XX. No 60XX allowed. (so dont get caught) THIS IS AN A.P.I. job All welders, steel and rods will have certs. For those of you who dont know, When you buy rods ask for the certs on the batch. They will know what you mean. KEEP THE PAPERS THEY GIVE YOU! YOU WILL NEED THEM. I am trying to buy rods at a pallet price so everyone will get a break on rods. All supplies are the same, I am working on getting all of us cheaper prices. I still need welders so once again, If you are interested and you have not sent me an Email. PLEASE DO SO at djmeroney@hotmail.com Fitters do the same. I will post the location and a contact phone #  within a week or so. Know this, I AM A RIG WELDER. I have been for 28 years. I am trying to get this job set up the way we all wish they all where. However I am not perfect so when we get there, if you see something we can do better, let me know I'll do my best. We have 12 rigs to build on the first order. The first one will be built alone so we can work out the bugs. Then we will build 3 at a time.

Thanks
Cactus

Cactus,
It sounds like you have a pretty good plan coming together. Just out of curiosity, who is doing the inspection?

How long  do you think this job will last?
Parent - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 07-04-2008 01:50
This job could last several years. Its hard to tell. Most of the Rigs are going overseas so as long as they have money we will build rigs. They are paying 50% in advance so there is alot of money on the line. Like I said, the first order is for 12 rigs

Where is the work at?
Parent - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 07-04-2008 23:05
The yard is in central West Texas. I will post the exact location sometime this next week. The company has ask me not to give exact details on location until plans are finalized. I understand their reasoning. Thay are trying to avoid 200 phone calls per day and Welders driving up with inquiring minds. I will list it a.s.a.p.

Oh , is there going to be any per diem?   Just asking...
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 07-08-2008 01:34
no per deim I dont know of ANY yards in texas that pay it. I guess they figure a long term job that you can count on EVERY day is per deim in itself

Do you know more or less the exact location in central west tx??
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 07-08-2008 10:32
Yes I do know more or less where the exact location is. I will release that info as soon as I can. Trust me, I am as ready as anyone to get this started. I wish it started last month. But I am trying to follow the rules and do what has been ask of me so I dont mess it up for everyone.  This company has used Rig welders in the past and from what I am told, they where takin for a ride. I am doing my best to overcome what someone else did. Its not easy. But I'm getting it done. So, Once again, I truly hope to be able to release this info by Friday. I have a meeting again on Thursday to iron out some final details and order steel.

Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 07-11-2008 03:52
I thought that rig for Parker was supposed to last over a year ?
Parent - - By pypLynr (***) Date 07-13-2008 19:27
Hey cactus, you get the lo down on that job? You never posted the info since your meeting on Thursday. Is it still on?
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 07-13-2008 20:24 Edited 07-13-2008 20:31
It is still on. Our target start date is Aug 4. The rigs will be built in Brady Tx. I will be contacting people next week. The steel has been ordered and our final plans will be issue to us next week. The welding test will be a 1/2 plate vertical with backer strap also a 1/2 plate 6010 root 7018 fill and cap and 6" 6g 6010 root 7018 fill and cap. The open root plate and the 6g will be for guys welding on the derrick. Also,  the only cell phone service that seems to work here is AT&T. The subs will be fit together and tacked with 7018 then rolled and welded out with 7024 or 7018. Specs call for al 70xx rods unless on derrick Derrick is all 6010 root and 7018 fill and cap. This is an API shop. so all rods will be kept in ovens. I will get some community ovens but I am going to buy my own 50lbs rod oven to keep on my truck. I know the honor system should work, but it doesnt always. I just prefer to know I am the only one using the rods I pay for. The 50 lb ovens only cost about 200 bucks so i figure its a good investment. Also This company WILL DRUG TEST. As soon as I get a phone that works in this area I will post my number for contact. I should get a Phone by tommorrow and internet that works all the time. I will get the local welding supplies listed asap so everyone can open accounts that need to. I am working on getting us all special pricing. There is not much going on here work wise so the welding supplies are eager for business.  But overall its all going as planned now

Sure wish i still had a moble welding rig.. just got let go where I work.

Do the welders need to pass both plate and pipe test to weld or will they be welders only doing plate?

Gary
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 07-13-2008 21:28
The root is downhill 6010 for the Derrick test. The test with a backer strap will be uphill 7018 all the way. Not everyone will be tested for Derricks. Once we finish the welds on the sub and derrick they will be Mag Particle tested
Parent - - By kmp (**) Date 07-13-2008 21:34
what size of rod is being used?
Parent - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 07-14-2008 02:13
test with 1/8 but we will be running 1/8-7/32
Parent - - By bullsnbets (**) Date 07-13-2008 22:28
Will the pay be the same for everyone, or will it differ as to the job..... Derrick Welders vs. Substructure?
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 07-14-2008 02:49
same for all
Parent - By ryan gaspard (**) Date 07-14-2008 03:11

Parent - - By kmp (**) Date 07-13-2008 21:18
