I've worked across the pipe from several people with chopped and channeled 200's. I ve never seen one overheat and that includes Topoc and other despicable desert locations that run well over 120 degrees F.
I've seen them run fine with Harvey-Didleson batteries, but it's better IMO to remote locate a large battery for those 20 below mornings in Rock Springs. Welding lead battery cables and one of those boat type plastic battery boxes are the deal.
A chopped machine, inset into the bed lets the driver see thru his in cab rear view mirror. Plus a lot of guys like the way they look. Plus they will clear your 5th wheel rv if chopped and inset. Many a trailer corner has meet up close and personal with a Lincoln welding machine, including mine ; ) thank goodness for those fiberglass repair kits.
Anyone that says a chopped 200 will overheat hasn't seen it done properly.
The most radical chop job I've ever seen was an old SA-250 chopped by a maniac into a Bobcat size case. It worked for decades that way in heat and cold.
